Tree Felling & Removal
Overview

What to expect

Sometimes a tree just needs to come down. It might be dead or dying, growing too close to your house, causing problems with subsidence, or simply too big for your garden. Whatever the reason, you need someone who knows what they're doing. We remove trees of all sizes across Sussex and Surrey, from a single garden tree to clearing an entire site for a development. Every job is planned properly before we start, and all our climbers are City & Guilds NPTC qualified.

If the tree is close to your house, a fence, a conservatory, or power lines, we can't just fell it in one piece. Instead, we take it apart section by section from the top down, lowering each piece on ropes so nothing drops where it shouldn't. For really big or tricky removals we bring in a crane to lift heavy sections clear of buildings and set them down safely. We've done this next to listed buildings, on residential streets, and in school grounds.

Before we start, we'll check if the tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if you're in a Conservation Area, because if it is, you need council approval first. We handle the paperwork for you. We also check for nesting birds between March and August, as required by law. Once the tree is down, everything is cleared away and recycled. If you'd like us to cut the logs for your fire, just say the word.

Our Process

How It Works

1

We come and have a look

Antony visits your property to see the tree, check the access, and talk through any concerns: TPOs, nearby buildings, overhead cables. You get a clear written quote with no obligation.

2

We sort the permissions

If the tree is protected or you're in a Conservation Area, we handle the council application for you. We also confirm whether we'll need a crane, road closure, or any other arrangements.

3

We plan the job

Every removal gets a proper risk assessment and plan. This covers how we're taking the tree down, where everything will land, and how we keep your property safe throughout.

4

The tree comes down

We fell the tree or take it apart section by section, depending on the space available. If it's tight (close to your house, fence, or cables) we lower every piece on ropes. For the biggest jobs, we bring in a crane.

5

Everything is cleared away

All the branches, timber, and waste are removed and recycled. The stump is cut as low as we can. If you want it ground out completely, we can do that on the same visit.

6

We check you're happy

We walk the site with you before we leave. Your garden is left clean, tidy, and ready for whatever comes next: replanting, turfing, or just enjoying the extra space.

FAQ

Tree Felling & Removal: Common Questions

Do I need permission to fell a tree in my garden?

If the tree has a Tree Preservation Order or you're in a Conservation Area, yes, you need council approval first. Doing work without it is a criminal offence and the fines are serious. Not sure if your tree is protected? Send us the address and we'll check for you. If it is, we handle the application.

Can you remove a tree close to my house?

Yes, it's what we do most days. If the tree is right next to your house, garage, or fence, we take it apart section by section from the top, lowering each piece on ropes so nothing drops where it shouldn't. For really big trees we bring in a crane.

How long does it take to fell a tree?

A straightforward garden tree with good access can be down and cleared in half a day. Bigger trees, multi-stem specimens, or jobs that need rigging and crane work may take a full day or more. We'll give you a clear timescale when we quote.

What happens to the wood?

Everything is removed and recycled. If you'd like logs for your wood burner or fire pit, just let us know and we'll cut them to the size you need. We also sell seasoned hardwood logs if you want extra.
