Tree Surgeon in Worthing
From Victorian villa gardens near the seafront to the leafy avenues under the Downs, we provide professional tree surgery across Worthing, Goring, Durrington, and Broadwater.
Tree Surgeons in Worthing
Worthing is a town of garden suburbs squeezed between the sea and the South Downs, and its trees live with both. Along the seafront and through the Victorian streets of Heene and the town centre, salt-laden south-westerlies prune everything nature plants, and exposed garden trees develop lopsided, wind-sheared crowns that need skilled rebalancing rather than crude cutting. Further inland, the avenues of Broadwater, Tarring, and Offington hold substantial mature trees — evergreen oaks, limes, and pines that have shaded these streets for a century.
Worthing has 27 designated conservation areas — among them Heene, West Tarring, Broadwater, Park Crescent, and Steyne Gardens — so a surprising amount of the town is covered by the six-week notice rules for tree work. Two further conservation areas on the northern edge, Highdown and Castle Goring, fall within the South Downs National Park itself. Worthing Borough Council, through the shared Adur & Worthing planning service, manages TPOs and keeps online registers of every order made since 2015. We check them before quoting on any Worthing job.
The borough takes its trees seriously — the council’s own parks service highlights specimens like the paperbark maple at Highdown Gardens and the Japanese cherries at Beach House Park — and private gardens are no different. Worthing is about 16 miles from our Hassocks base along the A27 or down through Steyning, a 35-to-40-minute drive, and we typically group Worthing work with our regular jobs in Steyning and Henfield to keep scheduling efficient and prices fair.
How We Help Worthing Homeowners
Our most requested work in Worthing is crown reduction and reshaping of wind-exposed trees, holm oak and cypress management in older gardens, and hedge trimming on established boundaries. Coastal conditions are hard on badly pruned trees, so everything we do follows BS 3998 — clean cuts, sensible proportions, and no topping.
Crown Reduction
Tree getting too big? We’ll reduce its height and spread without ruining its shape. You get more light, less worry about branches, and a tree that still looks natural.

Stump Grinding
Left with an ugly stump? We grind it out below ground level so you can turf over it, plant something new, or just have your garden back.

Tree Preservation Orders in Worthing are managed by Worthing Borough Council through the shared Adur & Worthing Councils planning service. If a tree has a TPO, you must apply for consent before carrying out any work. The councils maintain online TPO registers covering all Orders made since 2015, searchable by site address; for details of TPOs made before 2015, a written request to the council is needed. Enquiries about protected trees or trees in conservation areas should be directed to the Planning (Development Management) team.
Worthing has 27 designated conservation areas, including Heene, West Tarring, Broadwater, Park Crescent, and Steyne Gardens. Two of them — Castle Goring and Highdown — fall within the South Downs National Park, where the National Park Authority is the planning authority. If your property is within a conservation area, you must give 6 weeks’ written notice before cutting down, topping, or lopping any tree with a trunk diameter over 75 mm at 1.5 m above ground. The council uses this period to decide whether a TPO should be placed on the tree.

Removal of a large Oak tree
Antony was polite and responsive from first contact. On site, the job was done efficiently, with skill (the large oak was roadside & there were telephone wires to navigate past) and his team cleaned the site extremely well afterwards. Everything was organised by Antony, including the traffic control on the main road. Very impressed and would definitely use again. Thank you.
Professional Efficient Garden and Tree experts

Trim trees back
They arrived when they said they would and carried out the work that was requested. Very polite, efficient and tidy. I will use them again in the future.
Tree and stump removal
Antony Geer of A C Garden & Trees and his team recently removed a very large Lawson Cypress tree plus a row of five Laylandii trees that were on a steep bank at the front of my house including tree stumps. I was most impressed by their efficiency and speed in completing the task and ensuring that the site was left clear of all debris. I have no hesitation in recommending A C Garden & Trees should you ever have the need to use their services. Rod Smith
Bamboo removal
Job was to dig out and remove 2 clump forming bamboos from our back garden. This was carried out proficiently and garden was left extremely tidy. Advice was given on what to do if bamboo comes back, which was much appreciated. Pleasure to deal with and will certainly use again in the future for any tree works.
Antony shaped a bay tree and pruned back various trees
Antony is very knowledgable, he listened to what I wanted and advised on the best way of achieving that outcome. Thoroughly lovely person and I was very happy to have him in my garden. Very pleased with the results.

Common Questions in Worthing
Are there conservation areas in Worthing?
Yes — 27 of them, including Heene, West Tarring, Broadwater, Park Crescent, and Steyne Gardens, plus Highdown and Castle Goring which sit inside the South Downs National Park. If your property falls within one, Worthing Borough Council needs six weeks’ notice before work on any tree with a trunk over 75 mm in diameter. We check your address and handle the notice for you.
How do I find out if my Worthing tree has a TPO?
Adur & Worthing Councils keep online TPO registers covering all orders made since 2015, searchable by address; older orders can be confirmed by writing to the council. We run this check on every tree we quote for, so you do not need to do the legwork yourself.
Can you deal with wind-damaged and salt-exposed trees?
Yes — it is a defining feature of coastal tree work. Trees near the seafront grow asymmetrically away from the prevailing wind and are prone to limb failure on the exposed side. We rebalance crowns properly rather than topping, which weakens trees and looks terrible. After storms, we can attend quickly to make damaged trees safe.
Which parts of Worthing do you cover?
All of it — the town centre, Heene, Broadwater, Tarring, Offington, Durrington, Salvington, High Salvington, and Goring-by-Sea, covering BN11 to BN14. We also cover Findon and the villages just north of the town under the Downs.
